Grunion Run

Not an athletic event, the Grunion Run is a remarkable annual occurrence where the little grunion fish comes ashore to spawn. Peak spawning season typically occurs from April through early June and the grunion runs occur late at night, twice a month, after the highest tides associated with a full or new moon.

A professor at Pepperdine collects data on grunion runs on California beaches and organizes "grunion greeters" to help collect the data. Members of our Bio departments have been involved every year thus far and will be involved this year as well. If you're interested in watching grunion runs and reporting what you see, Dr. Karen Martin will be coming to campus next Wednesday evening (April 15) to conduct a volunteer workshop in MSRB.
